Colorado Wildlife Council seeks applicants for East Slope angler representative vacancy

The Colorado Wildlife Council is seeking a qualified volunteer to provide professional expertise and represent the interests of the angling community while helping guide the council’s public education campaigns.

May 5, 2026

DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is announcing an open volunteer position on the Colorado Wildlife Council (CWC) for an East Slope angler representative.

The CWC is a statutorily created body that oversees a statewide, media-based public information program focused on educating the public about the benefits of wildlife, wildlife management and wildlife-related recreational opportunities, specifically hunting and fishing.

The vacant seat represents anglers east of the Continental Divide and is one of nine positions on the council, which includes representatives from hunting and fishing communities, agriculture, local governments, media and CPW.

The CWC is seeking a qualified volunteer to provide professional expertise and represent the interests of the angling community while helping guide the council’s public education campaigns. Those campaigns highlight how conservation in Colorado is funded largely through hunting and fishing license purchases.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Providing professional expertise and representing constituents
  • Guiding creative campaigns that promote hunting and fishing
  • Attending monthly meetings, both in-person and virtual
  • Reviewing materials and providing input between meetings
  • Participating in subcommittees and stakeholder engagement
Council members collaborate with a professional advertising firm on campaigns such as “Hug a Hunter/Angler” and “Science in the Wild,” which communicate the role of sportsmen and women in conservation.

The position is unpaid; however, members are reimbursed for travel expenses. Volunteers who contribute 48 or more hours annually are eligible for a free Colorado state parks pass.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a Colorado resident
  • Must regularly purchase Colorado fishing licenses
  • Must be nominated by an organized sportspersons group with regional or statewide membership
Applications must be submitted by June 12, 2026.

About the CWC
The CWC was established by the state legislature in 1998 and is funded through the Wildlife Management Public Education Fund, which is supported by a $1.50 surcharge on hunting and fishing licenses. The council works to increase public awareness of the role of wildlife management and the contributions of hunters and anglers to conservation in Colorado.
